The Smart Fortwo is not exactly what you call a mean machine, quite the opposite. But when you transform the tiny city car into a Dakar-style off-road vehicle, “mean” will become an apparent attitude.
Jose Luis “JL” Alvarez and his team created the “Smart Buggy 4×4” in a bid to tackle the 2013 Dakar Rally. The car is fully compliant with FIA regulations, but the team does not have enough funding to join the 2-week rally raid, killing their hopes of a Dakar debut.
