May 15, 2016 – Mercedes endured a disastrous Spanish Grand Prix race as team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg collided on the first lap, which led to the retirement of both cars.
Rosberg had overtaken pole position man Hamilton on the first corner. However, Hamilton attempted regain the lead on the inside of Rosberg as they headed down to Turn 4, but the German moved to close the door – forcing Hamilton on to the grass as they approached the braking zone.
Hamilton lost control and spun sideways, collecting Rosberg, and the pair crashed out in to the gravel trap.
