May 18, 2016 – In a rather unusual drag race, the fuel-hungry Mercedes G63 AMG off-road SUV goes head-to-head with the eco-friendly BMW i8 sports car. It’s a contest between past and future.
The 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 in the Mercedes makes 536 horsepower and 761 Nm of torque, while the BMW’s hybrid system, which consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and an electric motor, is good for 362 hp and 570 Nm of torque.
Both are all-wheel drive but the BMW’s significantly lighter, tipping the scales at 1567 kilograms compared to a monstrous 2550 kilograms for the G63 AMG.
