The second round of the 2014 Lebanese Hill Climb Championship in Deir El Qamar saw the early retirement of driver Elias Ghanem (Zakh) after crashing his Peugeot 206 RC. Luckily, Ghanem got out of the car with no injuries, but the car was too damaged, and he therefore could no longer participate.
Ghanem said: “The steering arm got weakened after I hit the car’s right tire while going through the chicane; the wheel started to deflate slowly. That same chicane was followed by a long straight and a left-hander. After reaching almost 160 km/h on the straight, I tried to enter the left corner, but the car kept going straight. The tire, obviously flat by then, put all the pressure on the steering arm, which broke. I hit the back of the car and kept my foot on the gas to try to save it from spinning, but to no avail. After examination, we discovered that the rear side took most of the impact; the car’s being repaired now.”
