Oscar Piastri claimed a strong victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, extending his championship lead with a commanding drive. The Australian led a McLaren 1-2 finish, ahead of teammate Lando Norris. The race saw drama as Max Verstappen and George Russell collided late in the event.
Starting from pole, Piastri jumped off the line well, building an early gap from Verstappen. Verstappen initially passed Norris but lost the lead back to Piastri after a second pit stop. Verstappen’s three-stop strategy created tension, but it was disrupted by a late Safety Car due to Kimi Antonelli’s mechanical failure.
At the restart, Piastri and Norris pulled away, while Verstappen lost third to Charles Leclerc. The battle between Verstappen and Russell ended in contact twice. Verstappen received a 10-second penalty for causing a collision, dropping him to tenth.
Leclerc finished third for Ferrari, with Russell fourth and Nico Hulkenberg an impressive fifth for Kick Sauber after starting 15th. Lewis Hamilton came sixth, followed by Isack Hadjar and Pierre Gasly. Fernando Alonso scored his first points of the season in ninth, while Verstappen ended tenth after his penalty.
The race had additional drama when Aston Martin withdrew Lance Stroll due to injury, and Yuki Tsunoda started from the pit lane. The McLaren drivers’ pace was clear, with Piastri setting a solid margin over the field.
This win strengthens Piastri’s lead in the Drivers’ Championship, putting him ahead of Norris and Verstappen. For full race stats and updates, visit the official Formula 1 website.
