Fiat returns to rallying with rear-wheel drive 124 Rally Abarth

March 1, 2016 – After forty years of absence, Fiat is bringing back the 124 Rally Abarth name to the world of rallying by revealing a new generation of the car at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show this week.

The new 124 Rally Abarth was developed by Abarth Racing Team; it is based on the 124 Spider sports car and it features a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 300 horsepower; the engine is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox that pushes the rear wheels.

With the 124 Rally Abarth, Fiat wants to “bring back sweet memories from the past of rallying in the 70’s when competitions were more engaging and gathering massive crowds.”
