I’m a car guy, I’ve been a car guy for as long as I can remember. However, I’ve been recently developing a liking for their two-wheeled counterparts, motorcycles. The liking is slowly turning into an obsession, passion, call it whatever you want. I understand a car is safer, but if you ride safely and have your motorcycle personal protective equipment on you, you’ll be fine. Here’s why I believe motorcycles are better than cars.
5. Fuel economy
Motorcycles are extremely cheap to run, a KTM 1290 Super Duke R for example, one of the most exotic and powerful motorcycles currently on sale, can run 240 kilometers with its 18-liter tank of fuel. Imagine the average fuel consumption on smaller 600cc or 250cc motorcycles…
4. Parking
Finding a parking spot in an overly crowded city can be quite an ordeal. Parking is a time consuming and nerve-wracking experience, but guess what? You don’t have to worry about that in a motorcycle, it’s quarter the size of a car, therefore can fit almost anywhere.
3. Traffic
If there’s one thing I hate more than finding a parking spot, it’s being stuck in traffic for hours. Luckily, I also don’t have to worry about that on a motorcycle, I can just [safely] weave through cars and laugh at their misery.
2. Maintenance
Now this is debatable, because a motorcycle can be more expensive to maintain, but think of it this way: do you get the same levels of performance? A high-end motorcycle can cost more to maintain than your average family sedan, but the latter is nowhere near as powerful or good to drive.
1. The experience
Riding a motorcycle is a completely different experience, a better experience. You don’t get the sense of freedom and joy in a car, you can’t maneuver a car as easily, you don’t feel united with a car. It’s really hard to describe the feeling, you need to ride a motorcycle to know what I’m talking about. I think this is the main reason why riders have chosen the motorcycle path, not fuel economy, not parking space, but the open and refreshing experience.
