Ford Unveils EcoBoost Mustang RTR at Detroit Auto Show

Ford teases the EcoBoost Mustang RTR at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show, promising enhanced performance and unique styling upgrades developed with Vaughn Gittin Jr.

At the 2025 Detroit Auto Show, Ford unveiled a special surprise alongside the Mustang GTD: the upcoming EcoBoost Mustang RTR. Developed in collaboration with racing driver Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s renowned tuning firm, RTR, this factory-tuned version of the Mustang promises to offer more power and performance than the standard EcoBoost model.

While the spotlight initially shone on the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, the Mustang RTR quickly stole the show, showing off its drifting capabilities in a thrilling display of raw, internal-combustion power. This collaboration between Ford and RTR is expected to be more than just an appearance package, with performance enhancements that go beyond styling tweaks. While Ford has yet to release full specs, the RTR model is expected to borrow key components from the high-performance Dark Horse trim.

Despite being the entry-level EcoBoost variant in the Mustang lineup, the four-cylinder engine is no slouch, achieving 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds—only 0.3 seconds slower than the V8-powered GT model. If the RTR version receives a power boost, it could further close the performance gap, making it an even more formidable contender.

The RTR will feature distinctive styling cues, including lime-green Brembo brake calipers, 19-inch wheels, and a bold rear spoiler. The standout design feature is the illuminated portholes in the front grille, which add an eye-catching, modern touch. However, many of the car’s details remain under wraps, and enthusiasts will have to wait until Ford officially launches the Mustang RTR to learn more about its full performance and upgrade offerings.
