News agencies reported Friday, in reference to the Dutch public prosecutor in the city of Rormond that former car racing and Formula One driver Jos Verstappen was charged with attempted murder and was placed under arrest.
He was arrested for two weeks and is now in jail since Wednesday after assaulting his former girlfriend, aged 24 years.
The girlfriend claimed to the police that he tried crushing her with his car but was able to flee without any damage.
The driver’s lawyer said his client denies the allegations.
The police rushed to the scene, but they have not arrested the driver, who turned himself in shortly after.
Verstappen and known by the police, as was previously convicted in 2009 by a Belgian court sentenced 3 months suspended because of repeated threats directed to his ex-wife.
