Former Polestar Chief Joins BMW for Design Leadership

Maximilian Missoni transitions from Polestar to BMW, overseeing Alpina and luxury-class models. Key design shifts include new leadership roles within BMW Group.

In a significant reshuffling within the BMW Group’s design teams, Maximilian Missoni has been appointed to oversee the design of BMW’s upper mid-size and luxury-class models, including the Alpina brand. Missoni, who led Polestar’s design team since the company’s inception in 2018, will bring his expertise to BMW starting this October.

This move is part of a broader design leadership change at BMW. Domagoj Dukec, BMW’s current design chief, will transition to Rolls-Royce, replacing Anders Warming, who will now head the Group’s global Designworks division.

Missoni’s departure from Polestar was announced last month, with Philipp Römers, previously Audi’s head of exterior design, stepping in as his successor. Römers is known for his work on models such as the Audi A6, A8, E-tron GT, and the Mk7 Volkswagen Golf.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath expressed gratitude for Missoni’s contributions, praising his role in establishing Polestar’s design standards that blend aesthetics, luxury, and performance. Ingenlath also welcomed Römers, noting his modern design approach and experience in the luxury performance sector, which will be crucial as Polestar expands its lineup and aims for financial milestones, including 155,000 sales next year.

Römers will be instrumental in designing the next-generation models following the Polestar 2 and refreshing the existing lineup, including the Polestar 3, 4, 5, and 6.
