Ginetta’s Akula supercar finally enters production, offering a lightweight V8-powered manual option with stunning performance and grand touring comfort. Only 20 units available.
Ginetta’s ultra-lightweight Akula supercar has finally entered production, keeping its naturally aspirated V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission. Originally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019, the Akula was set for delivery in early 2020 but faced delays. Now, the production version is ready, offering a thrilling old-school driving experience in an era dominated by hybrids and electric vehicles.
Powerful V8 and Lightweight Build
The Ginetta Akula is powered by a mid-mounted 6.4-liter V8 engine, producing 600 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque. While those numbers may not seem groundbreaking in today’s performance market, the Akula’s lightweight construction gives it a significant edge. With a carbon fiber monocoque and floor, the supercar weighs just 2,624 pounds, allowing it to reach 0-62 mph in only 2.9 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 180 mph. The power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, although a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is available as an option. A limited-slip differential and optional carbon-ceramic brakes provide superior handling and stopping power.
Balanced Performance and Grand Touring Comfort
Despite its focus on performance, Ginetta designed the Akula with comfort in mind, giving it grand touring capabilities. The car boasts a cargo capacity of 16.7 cubic feet and features an electronically adjustable steering column and pedal box. Its large 26.4-gallon fuel tank allows for a potential range of 450 miles, assuming a less aggressive driving style.
