GRID 2: Is it the most anticipated racing game… ever?

by Saher Sabbagh

It’s been 5 years since the first GRID (also known as Racedriver GRID) game, the game which I believe is and will always be the flagship game of Codemasters, the game which I played more than any other game in my entire life, not because I love racing and racing games, but there’s something about it which really got me into realization that it might be the best racing game ever, although it may seem outdated if you attempt to play it now, but you’ll still feel like you’re into a world which many racing games don’t seem to deliver anymore, you feel like you’re in control of not only the car, but your senses.

After Codemasters announced the termination of GRID online servers, we (GRID fans) almost lost all hopes for a new GRID game, especially since Codemasters shifted its focus more on the Formula 1 game, and went really wide with the DiRT series.

In Q3 of 2011, Codemasters shocked the world with what was believed to be a GRID teaser, a very short video of a Pagani Huayra doing burnouts, before a GRID logo shows up with the phrase “The Race Returns”; it was obvious enough that this might be the moment we’ve all been waiting for; one day later, Codemasters made it official, and started revealing more teaser pictures with an announcement that this is actually GRID 2!

The word GRID 2 gives me Goosebumps every time I read it/hear it; because it is something that I never thought would come to reality as Codemasters were really trying to make us forget about GRID earlier that time.

A couple of weeks later a trailer was revealed, featuring cars like the McLaren 12c, Chevrolet Corvette, Pagani Huayra, and many other exotic, sport, and muscle cars, in addition to the Abu Dhabi circuit, which I’m really excited to try with GRID physics.

Since that time, Codemasters haven’t stopped uploading screenshots, news, and updates, but the biggest let down as some fans think, is the lack of the cockpit view. I’m personally a huge fan of the cockpit view but it doesn’t seem so necessary nowadays especially when a game is as active and physical as GRID; I mean if the game’s physics are as good as they’re promising us to be, trust me, the cockpit view will not be as enjoyable/realistic as the bonnet view, and I have huge faith in Codemasters when it comes to physics, they’ve been proving it since the first GRID, all the way through DiRT and the F1 series.

Codemasters have announced that the release date will be in late May, so the wait wont be that long, and I’m really optimistic for what’s about to come.

I’ll be getting it on the release date, or even before, and I’ll also be giving my opinion from the first boot.
