Hennessey’s Venom GT has unofficially dethroned the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport as the world’s fastest production car.
The American tuning house claimed a new world speed record at the Kennedy Space Center, USA when their modified Lotus Exige hit a 435.31 km/h top speed. Bugatti’s mighty Veyron Super Sport previously set the record in 2010 when it hit 431,072 km/h at Volkswagen Group’s Ehra-Lessien track in Germany.
However, Hennessey’s attempt will not be listed in the Guinness World Records because the Venom GT did not attempt two runs – one in either direction – which is a requirement for an official Guinness record. The Bugatti Veyron SS remains officially the world’s fastest production car.
Powered by a by a twin-turbocharged, 7-litre V8 engine which develops a whopping 1,244bhp, the Venom GT can sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
