Honda, Mazda and Nissan halt production due to Anti-Japan protests in China

Anti-Japan protests which erupted in China after a territorial dispute between the two countries have recently forced Japanese car manufacturers Honda, Mazda and Nissan to halt production in China.

Honda will be shutting down four of its plants in China for two days, thanks in part to the fact that local dealerships have been under attack and can’t receive any shipments. A Honda showroom even saw a Civic set on fire in Shanghai. Mazda meanwhile will close its facility in the city of Nanjing for four days.

Honda, Mazda and Nissan aren’t the only victims as Toyota and Panasonic also suffered a share of the protests with both manufacturers reporting fire damage at their facilities. The September 18 events coincide with the anniversary of Japan’s invasion into northeastern China in 1931.
