Honda’s 2027 EV prototypes showcase sleek designs and cutting-edge features, with plans for Level 3 autonomy and advanced tech systems.
At CES 2025, Honda revealed two prototype electric vehicles (EVs) that bring the automaker closer to launching its 0-series lineup. These sleek, futuristic prototypes—a saloon and an SUV—are designed to hit the roads in North America by 2026, with the 0 SUV slated to arrive first, followed by the 0 Saloon.
Sleek, Futuristic Designs
The 0 SUV prototype takes cues from the 2024 Space Hub concept but adopts a more trendy crossover shape. It sports a distinctive black front panel with pixelated headlights, an illuminated Honda logo, and a chunky bumper designed to enhance battery cooling. The SUV’s raked windshield and sharp roofline add to its streamlined appearance, while a U-shaped taillight wraps around a uniquely thin rear windshield.
The 0 Saloon, on the other hand, carries forward Honda’s 2024 CES concept design, featuring a low-slung, wedge-shaped body. The prototype includes larger headlights with retractable covers, resembling the pop-up headlights of earlier models. Its angular D-pillars and smooth, aerodynamic form emphasize the car’s futuristic style.
Both prototypes replace traditional side mirrors with cameras, though this feature may not make it to production. The interiors of both models are dominated by high-tech screens, including a digital gauge cluster, central touchscreen, and side-view displays. With minimal physical controls, these vehicles are designed for a seamless, tech-forward user experience.
Performance and Technology
Honda has shared limited details on the 0-series powertrain, but it is confirmed that the models will feature rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations, supported by Honda’s latest electric motors, with power outputs of 241 hp and 67 hp. The thin lithium-ion battery is expected to provide around 300 miles of EPA-rated range.
A key feature of the 0-series is its Level 3 autonomous driving capability, allowing drivers to engage in tasks like watching movies or attending video calls while the vehicle manages driving functions. Initially, Level 3 autonomy will be available only on highways, but Honda plans to expand its reach over time. The system will be powered by artificial intelligence in collaboration with Helm.ai, ensuring quick adaptation to dynamic driving conditions.
Next-Gen Tech and Features
Honda also introduced its in-house-developed operating system, ASIMO OS, named after its iconic humanoid robot. The OS will integrate driver-assistance systems with infotainment functions, supporting over-the-air updates. Additionally, Honda is collaborating with Renesas to develop a high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) to manage the demanding requirements of autonomous driving and other vehicle systems.
The 0-series EVs will also feature smart charging capabilities. Thanks to a new partnership with IONNA, a charging network initiative with other automakers, Honda is aiming for 30,000 charging stations by 2030. The vehicles will include a NACS-style charge port, and when charging at home, they will optimize energy use by automatically charging during low-cost hours or when renewable energy is available. Additionally, owners will be able to sell excess energy back to the grid, providing a potential revenue stream.
Honda’s 2027 EV lineup represents a significant step forward in the company’s commitment to electrification, combining innovative design, autonomous driving capabilities, and smart technology in one package.
