Hyundai RN24: Rally Car Meets 641-HP Electric Beast

The Hyundai RN24 is a thrilling blend of rally car and EV, packing 641 horsepower into a stripped-down, high-performance machine for ultimate fun.

Unveiled at Hyundai’s N Day event, the RN24 takes the concept of a rally car to new heights, blending high-performance electric power with a stripped-down, motorsport-inspired design. Based on the Ioniq 5 N, this electrifying machine packs a jaw-dropping 641-hp powertrain into a shortened, rally-style platform, delivering the ultimate adrenaline rush.

The RN24 is part of Hyundai’s “rolling lab” series, showcasing the brand’s cutting-edge EV technology and track-ready performance. Previous creations, like the 390-hp mid-engine Veloster RM19 and the RN22e electric sedan, have pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in the electric car world. The RN24 takes this ambition even further, with a compact platform borrowed from Hyundai’s i20 WRC hybrid rally car.

With its radical exoskeleton design, the RN24 stands out from anything else on the road. Hyundai removed traditional bodywork, leaving a raw, race-ready frame that screams performance. The exposed structure, paired with eye-catching LED strips, gives it an aggressive, futuristic look, more akin to a backyard-built dirt track racer than a conventional rally car.

Powering this beast is a shortened version of the Ioniq 5 N’s electric drivetrain. Although the RN24 is 15 inches shorter than its base model, it still delivers the same brutal 641 horsepower, catapulting drivers into a rally-like experience. Hyundai’s use of external speakers and the rear fenders as soundboxes amplifies the vehicle’s already thrilling growl, giving it an unmistakable soundtrack to match its fierce performance.

Motorsport elements, like the massive rear wing borrowed from Hyundai’s Elantra Touring Car Racing model, reinforce the RN24’s racing pedigree. All-wheel drive with rally mode, torque control from the i20 WRC car, and an electric hand brake ensure that this machine is built for high-speed, off-road thrills.

While Hyundai’s rolling lab vehicles are said to influence future road cars, the RN24 seems more like a creation built for pure fun and experimentation. With its rally car DNA and electric power, it showcases the limitless potential of Hyundai’s N division, a team that clearly enjoys pushing the boundaries of automotive performance.

Hyundai’s N brand is named after the Nürburgring, where their performance cars are tested, and Namyang, home to their R&D center. With the RN24, they might as well add “No Limits” to the list.
