The newly-formed Formula E Championship inaugurated with the first round of the 2014/2015 season in China today, and the race witnessed a last-lap accident that handed Audi Sport ABT driver Lucas Di Grassi the win.
e.dams-Renault driver Nicolas Prost took pole position and was on his way to secure victory after 25 laps around the Beijing Olympic Green Circuit. However, Venturi Grand Prix driver and ex-Formula 1 man Nick Heidfeld closed in on the Frenchman and as the German attempted to overtake on the inside of the last corner, Prost turned in on him, which resulted in a heavy collision that put both cars out of the race just a few meters before the chequered flag.
