Dani Sordo now holds a comfortable lead on his Intercontinental Rally Challenge debut in Corsica at the end of day two.
The Mini driver engaged in a close tussle with Andreas Mikkelsen and Giandomenico Basso, but both his rivals ran into trouble; the latter was eliminated after an incident with a public car on a road section on Thursday night, while the former went off the road after leading the rally.
Mikkelsen’s hopes of a comeback were destroyed after he suffered a puncture on the day’s final stage. He is now in fifth place, nearly four minutes off the lead following his dramas.
Sordo established a 25.2-second gap over Jan Kopecky, who moved up to second. The Czech driver has been battling with Pierre Campana all day, and was able to edge out a 4.4s cushion on the final stage after Campana had been getting ever closer.
Bryan Bouffier’s Peugeot is just behind this battle in fourth.
