Joe Ghanem: Change is good but it should be better studied

Joe Ghanem: In Lebanon we don’t have the right cars for such a road.

After the first day of testing and a lot of controversy we me the younger starlet and stood upon his preparation and his opinion and about the new road.

After your absence in Deir El Qamar Hill Climb, you are back on a totally different road. Can you describe the road for us?

The road is very new and in my opinion it is not appropriate for the cars we have in Lebanon. The group N cars with 4wd features are designed for more narrow roads and roads which are more technical. Anyway Hill Climb roads in Europe and in the States are similar to this road but different types of cars are used. I just hope there will be cars that suit such hill climbs in the future.

I am totally supportive for ATCL’s idea of change, but change should be studied much more. They should look around and see what cars we have in the country and design the roads accordingly. I wish the chicanes were differently since they are killing the speed to the maximum. They are very narrow and they destroyed the nice feeling of the long curves where the lining and breaking points are very important.

Where do you see your group N car compared with the prototypes and BMWs?

Well I can’t look a lot into this fact. The cars are totally different here and they are far away from each other. I seriously don’t care, since everyone would be looking to win his category and that is what matters the most.

I guess the BMWs will be somehow a little bit ahead. At least someone of them will be. The Prototypes will still be ahead because of the chicanes. The chicanes need 4WD cars and handbrakes. So these characteristics will suit the Protos more.

Can you do 2 wins out of 2 this season?

Well this is my target.

Who are your competitors?

I don’t know if Nick Georgiou is participating, and I hope he is since I would like to compete with him even though he is on a different category. Well in my category there is Sysley and Tamer Ghandour. Anyway I am relaxed. I can adapt to any type of road and especially here with the long curves which are similar to those in circuit racing. I wish I had participated in the past event. It would have been good for me to claim a championship which will be my second this year after the GT in UAE.

Have your misunderstanding with the team been resolved after the last Hill Climb?

Yes off course they have been resolved but I would say that such things made me and the team losers. We both lost after that misunderstanding. I don’t think about myself only. In such situation if I win a trophy the team does too.

Do you think the team still has the chance to win?

I have less chance than Sysley and Tamer, and I hope Sysley wins. He is my teammate and I support him and may the best man win.

Do you think in such situation there might be any team orders?

I don’t think so at all. We have full respect to each other’s capabilities and team orders are not expected.
