Jordan Rally 2011 – Full Preview

Check out all the details ahead of the Jordan rally in addition to the time table and stages…

Jordan Rally runs for the third time in the FIA World Rally Championship and is based at the historic Dead Sea, 423 metres below sea level; the lowest elevation on earth. The stages, most of which also run below sea level, are of hard packed gravel and take the crews to semi-desert terrain surrounding the purpose-built Dead Sea service park.

Taking advantage of regulations that give organisers greater freedom, Jordan Rally will start on Thursday morning at the ancient city of Jerash, one of the largest and best preserved examples of Roman architecture in the world. From here, the crews will then contest the opening day’s six stages and 73.48 competitive kilometres. The action continues Friday and Saturday, with the event finishing at the Dead Sea service park on Saturday afternoon.

The final 10.50 kilometre stage of the rally – Baptism Site – will be run as the Power Stage, in which additional Championship points are awarded to the fastest three drivers through this single stage. The action will be broadcast live on Jordan Television.

Jordan Rally is the second round of the FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship, and the event is also the third round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship.

CHANGES TO THE ROUTE SINCE 2010

This year’s route is almost identical to 2010 with the exception of the inclusion of the Ma’in stage, which was last run in 2008. The 41.45 kilometre Jordan River stage (SS9/12) remains one of the longest in the Championship. The iconic water splash on the Suwayma/Baptism Site stage also returns, having been removed last year due to the heavy rain prior to the event.
