Facelifted Volvo XC90 Leaked Online Ahead of 4 September Reveal

Official images of the refreshed Volvo XC90 have surfaced online ahead of its scheduled unveiling on 4 September. The images were prematurely shared on social media by Volvo Car Switzerland, marking a rare lapse in punctuality for the Swiss.

The leaked photos reveal that Volvo’s popular seven-seat family SUV has undergone a subtle yet effective redesign. The exterior now boasts a cleaner, more contemporary appearance, highlighted by a wider grille with a fresh design that still prominently features the iconic Volvo badge at its center.

The signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ daytime running lights have been sharpened, and the headlights are now slimmer, adding to the sleek new look. The front bumper has also been updated, though the rear of the XC90 appears largely unchanged.

Inside, the XC90 sees notable upgrades, including a new dashboard that integrates a larger central touchscreen running Volvo’s latest Google-powered infotainment system. The steering wheel and center console design have been refreshed, although the SUV retains some physical buttons and a volume dial on the dashboard for ease of use.

The facelifted Volvo XC90 will exclusively offer hybrid powertrains. It is expected to feature the current model’s T8 plug-in hybrid setup, which combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor powered by a 19kWh battery. This configuration delivers all-wheel drive, 449bhp, and a pure-electric range of up to 45 miles. However, it’s possible that Volvo has extended the EV range for this updated model, potentially by incorporating a larger battery.
