Lebanese rider Mahmoud Tannir kicked off his 2012 UAE Sportbikes campaign in great fashion by clinching second place in Race 2 of the championship’s Round 1 on the Dubai Autodrome last week.
Mahmoud’s weekend got off to a great start after claiming pole position in qualifying, but his hopes of a race win were soon over following his crash on lap 2; Tannir’s front tire was too cold to handle the stress, thus sending the Lebanese off track.
In Race 2, Mahmoud showcased his talent by moving from the back of the grid to fourth place on the very first lap; fourth became second on lap 2, and Mahmoud was soon fighting for the lead, which he took on lap 6 after overtaking rival Surya Raja.
A small mistake from Tannir helped Raja retake the lead on lap 9; not wanting to push following his Race 1 retirement, the champion eventually settled for second place.
Round 2 of the championship will take place on the Dubai Autodrome National Circuit on the 30th of November, make sure you follow Mahmoud on his official facebook page!
