June 28, 2016 – 2016 UAE Autocross Championship winner Lebanon’s Mohamad Chehab has revealed his plans for the remainder of the season, in addition to his program for the 2017 season.
Chehab will compete in the two remaining rounds of the UAE National Rally Championship in the T1 category alongside fellow countryman and co-driver Rony Maroun, before switching to a full-time program in 2017. He will be racing for Shk. Marwan bin Rashed Al Mualla Rally Team, driving either a Nissan Patrol V8 or Toyota Tacoma V8, which he will also use in the 2016 and 2017 UAE Motorplex Solo Race Championship.
“I would like to thank Shk. Marwan and Team Manager Ali Al Shawi for always supporting me and believing in me, I will be doing nothing but my absolute best, which is what’s expected of me. I would also like to thank Rony Maroun for his efforts; as you know, it is really important to have good pace notes, therefore an experienced co-driver such as Rony will not only help me improve, but will give me the confidence to go fast.” said Chehab.
For 2017, Chehab wants to race in select Cross-Country events, including Qatar’s Sealine Rally and Saudi Arabia’s Ha’il International Rally, in addition to the UAE Desert Championship. Moreover, he wants to defend his UAE Autocross Championship title next year, and tackle the UAE Rallycross Championship – driving a Silver-Car ST2 race car in both championships.
Additionally, the 20-year-old aims to return to his home country in order to race in the Lebanese Hill Climb Championship and the 2017 edition of Rally of Lebanon.
It is worth mentioning that Chehab had won the UAE Autocross Championship this year, backed by BMC Air Filters, with one more round to spare and finished runner-up in the 2015 championship despite missing a couple of rounds. He also made several appearances in the 2015 UAE National Rally Championship in a Mitsubishi Evo VIII and competed in the UAB 24hrs Desert Challenge in a Nissan Patrol.
