Gunther Holtorf has spent 26 years of his life touring the world in a Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Holtorf, who kicked off this epic adventure after quitting his job at Europe’s largest airline Lufthansa, drove a blue 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300GD and first hit 200,000 kilometers on the odometer while in Argentina. He visited Africa, South America, Mexico, Canada and Alaska before heading to Australia.
His Mercedes reached 500,000 km when he was in the Middle East, he then headed to Turkey, United Kingdom and all the other European countries before visiting China, North Korea and other far eastern countries. Holtorf’s final stop was at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany.
Holtorf had around 400 spare parts stored in aluminum boxes on the roof, in case the G-Class broke down, which it rarely did.
The vehicle will be displayed in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, following the 890,000 km trip and a visit to 215 countries.
