Maserati Shamal Restomod Packs 507bhp and Retro Appeal

The 507bhp Project MA-01 Maserati Shamal restomod features striking retrofuturistic design cues and modern performance, starting at around £500,000.

The Project MA-01, a stunning Maserati Shamal restomod by Modena Automobili, brings a fresh twist to the world of performance cars. Known for their association with Porsche 911 restomods, enthusiasts will now find an exciting alternative in this reimagined 1990s classic.

Maintaining the original Maserati Biturbo Shamal chassis, the car has undergone a complete rebuild, with enhancements to handle a modern powertrain. The restomod is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine borrowed from the Ghibli S, producing an impressive 507bhp. This power propels the MA-01 from 0 to 62mph in just 4.7 seconds and delivers a top speed of 177mph.

The retro-inspired design remains boxy, with sharp, clean lines and flawless bodywork. A sleek carbon fiber body kit has been added, enhancing the car’s aerodynamics with updates to the front, sides, and rear. The LED lights have been modernized, and wider wheel arches accommodate the larger wheels and braking system. Despite the updates, key features like the thick black roof pillar and quad exhaust—albeit likely revamped—remain, paying homage to the original design. The carbon rear wing and expanded air inlets also stand out, with the latter likely aiding in cooling.
