McLaren answered our prayers, we asked for a P12 teaser image, and that’s exactly what they gave us. The teaser itself doesn’t reveal much, well, it’s a teaser, but our friend and reader Mark Antar managed to transform the teaser into a beautiful sketch of what might become the McLaren F1 successor.
Along with the teaser image came the following: “The next exciting chapter for McLaren Automotive will begin in Paris later this month when we make our international motor show debut. We will unveil our plan to fast forward the world of automotive at a press conference commencing on Thursday 27 September.”
It’s no longer a secret that the P12 will indeed be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, but what remains unknown are the performance figures. Some say it will inherit the MP4-12C’s V8 unit with 800 hp, others think it will get a new V10. Also rumored is a Formula 1-style KERS system bringing the hypercar’s output to 1000 horsepower. Veyron killer much? What’s even more impressive is the predicted 1225kg weight; that’s lighter than your everyday Kia Cerato.
The car’s name is still a mystery, with P1 or MP4-24C the likeliest of all. 0-100km/h is expected in 2.8 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than Koenigsegg’s Agera R) while top speed is at 391 km/h, not as fast as the Bugatti on a straight, but definitely around a corner due to the car’s extreme aerodynamics.
Will the P12 mark a new chapter in automotive history? We’ll find out in a couple of weeks.
