December 3, 2015 – McLaren has revealed a series of photos that give us a preview of a Formula 1 car’s possible appearance in the future.
Dubbed the McLaren MP4-X, the concept racecar is described by McLaren as a “a vision of the future of the racing car” and a “combination of a number of F1’s key ingredients – speed, excitement and performance, with the sport’s emerging narratives – such as enclosed cockpits to enhance driver safety, and hybrid power technologies.”
The MP4-X features enclosed wheels and cockpit, adaptive aerodynamic surfaces and ground effects to create more downforce. McLaren says the car “could couple solar energy capture with the more traditional regenerative systems that are currently employed.”
