JORDAN RALLY SWITCHES TO OCTOBER
Harsh winter causes severe damage to Dead Sea stages forcing a postponement
Amman, Jordan, March 11, 2012: The FIA World Council has approved Jordan’s request to move its Middle East Rally Championship round to October.
The event was initially planned for May but due to the harsh winter which has brought heavy rainfall, flash floods and, more recently, snow, organisers have been forced to switch to later in the year.
An inspection of stages in the Dead Sea area revealed extensive damage and the request to postpone until October 11-13 was supported by the sport’s governing body at its meeting on Friday.
The meeting also agreed to push the Kuwait Rally back to April 12-14 and the Syria Rally is now expected to take place from September 27-29, pending a review in July.
