Mercedes-AMG Announces New Electrified V8 Hybrid Engine

Mercedes-AMG has confirmed exciting plans for a next-generation V8 engine, marking a significant evolution in its performance lineup. According to the performance division, the company is set to “strategically evolve its portfolio,” with the main highlight being a new, electrified V8 engine. While specific details are scarce, AMG promises this next-gen powertrain will be both advanced and hybridized.

The upcoming V8 is expected to be a high-tech electrified version, though it’s unclear whether it will be a plug-in hybrid or a self-charging hybrid. The current hybrid V8 in the AMG GT and SL models combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor, producing a staggering 805bhp. In addition to the new V8, AMG will also unveil high-performance electric models based on their bespoke AMG.EA platform.

Mercedes also teased an upcoming smaller version of the G-Class and confirmed that future models, including a new electric E-Class and CLA, will be offered with petrol, hybrid, or electric powertrains.
