Mercedes-Benz celebrates 105 years of four-wheel drive

Mercedes-Benz has been credited for introducing numerous technological innovations, one of which is the first four-wheel drive vehicle, the 1907 Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft Dernburg-Wagen.

Powered by a 6.8-liter four-cylinder engine producing 35 horsepower and featuring four-wheel steering, the Dernburg-Wagen was the world’s first ever four-wheel drive vehicle.

The German company has passed on its four-wheel drive technology to its different machinery including the iconic G-Class, which was first introduced in 1972 and is still under production to this very day, and currently features a monstrous 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine with 603 hp and 1000 Nm of torque.
