Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG gets new look and more power

We’ve already seen the 2014 E-Class in all its body forms: Coupe, Cabriolet, Sedan and Wagon; but the Mercedes range is never complete without a high-performance AMG variant.

Unveiled yesterday, prior to its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show, the new E63 AMG receives the predicted facelift, but with muscular modifications to differentiate it from its lesser siblings.

We can sit here and talk about the aesthetics all day, but that’s what pictures are for; so we’ll dedicate the talking to the technical aspect of this monstrous car.

The new E63 AMG packs a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 with 557 horsepower, but that’s just on the “standard” model, because Mercedes is now offering an S-Model with a whopping 585 hp and 800 Nm of torque.

Both trims are available with an optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, which transfers power to all four wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed transmission.

The standard E63 AMG can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, but if you spec it with the 4MATIC system, the figure drops to 3.7 seconds – 0.1 slower than the E63 AMG S-Model sedan.

Sales of the rear-wheel drive E63 AMG start in April, followed by the 4MATIC and S-Models in June.
