Good news for Mercedes, because its new two-door is being pitched directly at established players like the BMW 3-Series Coupe and Audi A5. A tough crowd, by anyone’s standards.
The neat-looking C is smaller than the E-Coupe (which shares the C’s platform, oddly), and pitches in with a significantly more reasonable price: a basic C-Coupe will start at around 60 grand in the ME market. Engines will come in five flavours: three petrols — the C180, C220 and C350 vs — and two diesels — the 220 CDI and 250 CDI.
All are impressively economical — even the big V6 manages over 40mpg — but the stand- out figures are at 4.2mpg and just 117g/km of CO2 for the 170bhp 220 CDI diesel. It still does 62mph in 8.1 seconds. It should handle good too.
It gets the new Agility Control automatic adaptive suspension that uses clever damping to manage the suspension to be slow and soft or hard and fast, depending on the road conditions.
Elsewhere, the optional kit list will be impressive, from wireless music streaming to mobile internet, and all UK cars get AMG. Body styling and 18-inch alloys. Worth a look eh!!!
