Mercedes-Benz Classic brought a showcase of motorsport legends to FuoriConcorso 2025 at Lake Como, displaying two incredibly rare models from its racing history. Highlighting the event were a 1997 CLK GTR race car and its road-legal twin, shown together in public for a rare appearance. Both were lifted into the gardens of Villa del Grumello, alongside the historic 1990 C 11 Group C race car.
Held from May 24 to 25, the gathering celebrated Mercedes’ motorsport legacy. The CLK GTR, a champion of the 1997 FIA GT Championship, stood beside its street version—one of only 20 coupés ever produced. The road model, featuring a V12 engine and part of The Loh Collection, captivated attendees with its rarity and presence.
The vehicles share a strong Italian racing connection: the C 11 took a one-two win at Monza in 1990, and the CLK GTR finished second at Mugello in 1997. Each car was instrumental in earning championship titles during their competitive runs.
Adding depth to the event, Mercedes-Benz Heritage CEO Marcus Breitschwerdt participated in panel discussions at nearby Villa Sucota. He reflected on the brand’s rich motorsport heritage and its cultural impact, underscoring Mercedes’ continued relevance in both racing and design history.
This curated reunion of iconic machines underscored the brand’s commitment to preserving its racing DNA and gave fans a unique glimpse into the evolution of high-performance engineering from track to road.
