Michael Schumacher reportedly “battling pneumonia”

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher is battling pneumonia as doctors at the University Hospital in Grenoble continue work to bring him out of a medically induced coma, according to a report in Germany’s Bild daily.

The newspaper, which is believed to have several sources close to the seven-time world champion, reported that doctors had diagnosed Schumacher with pneumonia last week. However, Schumacher’s spokeswoman Sabine Kehm said the report was “speculation, and I do not comment on speculation.”

Schumacher has been in an artificial coma since suffering near-fatal injuries following a skiing accident which occurred in the French Alps on the morning of December 29. On January 30, Kehm confirmed that doctors were reducing Schumacher’s sedation levels in an attempt to wake him up.
