Toyota’s smallest model outside Japan, the Aygo X, receives a major update for 2025—introducing hybrid power, a sportier GR Sport trim, and refreshed design elements. Originally a compact hatchback, the Aygo X transitioned into a crossover-inspired look in 2022. Now, it gets a new engine and a full hybrid system, setting it apart in Europe’s shrinking A-segment.
The new hybrid setup replaces the old 1.0-liter engine with a 1.5-liter unit shared with the Yaris. This upgrade boosts output to 114 horsepower, significantly improving acceleration. The Aygo X now goes from 0 to 62 mph in under 10 seconds, down from nearly 15 seconds. It also leads its class in efficiency and emissions, offering just 86g/km of CO₂ and fuel consumption of around 3.8 liters per 100 km.
Toyota extended the front overhang to accommodate the hybrid system and used a new side-by-side battery cell layout under the rear seats—unique among Toyota models. Despite added tech, trunk space remains the same at 231 liters.
Design changes include a new grille, revised headlights, and a reshaped hood. The new GR Sport trim adds sportier suspension tuning and quicker steering but doesn’t increase power. Inside, the analog cluster is replaced by a seven-inch digital display, and an electronic parking brake is now standard.
Other upgrades include more sound insulation, thicker windows on upper trims, a wireless phone charger, dual USB-C ports, and enhanced safety features. The updated Aygo X launches in Europe later this year as Toyota’s smallest and most efficient hybrid.
