Lando Norris claimed victory in a dramatic 2025 Australian Grand Prix, overcoming challenging weather and fierce competition. Starting from pole position, Norris led early, managing rain-soaked conditions with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen hot on his heels. As the track dried, teams switched to slick tyres, but just as conditions improved, another downpour sent most drivers back to the pits.
Norris’s McLaren stayed under control, while Piastri spun off, losing valuable time. Verstappen surged into the lead, but with the rain worsening again, the Dutch driver had to pit, allowing Norris to reclaim the top spot. A final Safety Car period added further drama after crashes involving Gabriel Bortoleto and Liam Lawson.
In a thrilling finale, Verstappen closed in on Norris, but the McLaren driver held on to secure his first win of the season. George Russell completed the podium in third, while Williams’ Alex Albon and McLaren’s Piastri rounded out the top five.
Despite tough conditions, including crashes and shifting weather, Norris praised the unpredictability of the race. “It was amazing, especially with Max behind me,” he said. “The last two laps were stressful, but we got it right.”
The race saw several retirements, including Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz, while rookies Isack Hadjar and Jack Doohan didn’t even make the start. F1 now heads to the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, continuing the season’s thrilling momentum.
