Discover the Ford Mustang Indy Pace Car with a GT40 engine. This unique ‘Stang, modified for high speed, remains a priceless classic.
The original Ford Mustang Indy Pace Car featured a powerful GT40 race engine to meet the speed requirements of the 1964 Indianapolis 500. While early Mustangs, introduced in April 1964, lacked the power for pace duties, this particular car was fitted with a detuned GT40 engine to achieve the needed 140 mph. Unlike replica pace cars, this Mustang was used on the track and recently showcased by Bill Ford on Jay Leno’s Garage. With modifications including a 450-horsepower engine and a special transmission, this car retains its early Mustang appearance but roars with GT40 performance. It’s the last surviving pace car of the original three, making it a unique and priceless vehicle.
