Piastri Wins Miami GP and Honors NFL Bet

Oscar Piastri dominated the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, leading teammate Lando Norris in a stunning McLaren 1-2 finish. The Australian overtook Max Verstappen on lap 14 and never looked back, scoring his third straight F1 win and extending his championship lead.

Norris fought back from early contact with Verstappen that forced him off track and dropped him to sixth. He later reclaimed ground and passed the Red Bull driver on lap 19. Verstappen, struggling with tire wear, finished fourth behind George Russell, who took third after a perfectly timed pit stop under the virtual safety car.

Alex Albon impressed with a strong fifth-place finish for Williams, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton had a frustrating run, delayed by teammate Charles Leclerc. Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top ten, with Tsunoda barely holding onto his point after a penalty.

Post-race, Piastri delivered a surprise dance during his victory celebration—a result of a bet with NFL star Justin Jefferson. Earlier in the week, Jefferson taught Piastri the viral “griddy” dance and challenged him to perform it if he won. True to his word, Piastri attempted the move on live TV, admitting it was “poorly executed,” but in good fun. Jefferson celebrated the moment with a shoutout on social media.

With this win, Piastri now leads Norris by 16 points in the standings, while Verstappen trails by 32. The F1 season resumes in two weeks at Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
