Pirelli launches new Cinturato P7 tires for Ferrari 288GTO, celebrating its 40th anniversary and adding to its vintage collection for iconic Ferrari models.
Pirelli has expanded its Collezione tire collection by introducing a new set of Cinturato P7 tires specifically designed for the Ferrari 288GTO, celebrating the car’s 40th anniversary. This tire line already includes bespoke tires for legendary Ferrari models like the Enzo, F40, and F50.
The Ferrari 288GTO, a rare gem with only 272 units ever built, shares similarities with the F40 in terms of powertrain and layout. However, it’s often considered the connoisseur’s choice, more exclusive and arguably even more beautiful than its sibling. To the untrained eye, it may resemble the Ferrari 308, but its unique tube-frame chassis, partially Kevlar bodywork, and twin-turbocharged V8 engine tell a different story.
Ferrari’s GTO designation is reserved for its most exceptional cars, beginning with the 250GTO, one of the most valuable cars ever made. The 288GTO continues this legacy, with values now exceeding $4 million. With its rare design and racing heritage, the 288GTO stands out as a special, high-performance machine.
Originally, the 288GTO came equipped with Goodyear tires, but the new Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires are a fitting addition to the car’s legacy. The P7 was first introduced in the 1974 World Rally Championship and later adapted for road use in 1976. Pirelli’s new tires, sized 225/50R-16 at the front and 265/50R-16 at the rear, complement the 288GTO’s performance and authenticity.
While the Ferrari Testarossa might be a more everyday grand tourer, the 288GTO is reserved for special occasions, offering an intense driving experience. The final 288GTO ever built was custom-made for F1 champion Niki Lauda, further solidifying the car’s irreplaceable status in Ferrari history.
To commemorate the 288GTO’s 40th anniversary, Pirelli organized a tour that saw owners driving their cars through the scenic Dolomite mountains to Maranello—a stunning parade of classic Ferrari beauty and sound. For those lucky enough to own a 288GTO, Pirelli’s new Cinturato P7 tires make it easier to take their prized car out on the road, ensuring that every drive is worth the experience and investment.
