The Porsche 911 GT2 RS officially breaks the Nürburgring record

September 27, 2017 – Porsche has set a new record for road legal sports cars on the famous 20.6-kilometre Nürburgring Nordschleife in the 911 GT2 RS on September 20.

The record time of 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds was achieved in the presence of a notary and surpassed even Porsche’s own expectations. This record was not a one-off: Lars Kern and Nick Tandy broke the previous record for road legal sports cars (6 minutes, 52.01 seconds set by the Lamborghini Huracán Performante) in their first attempt and subsequently finished five laps, each coming in under 6 minutes, 50 seconds. It was Lars Kern, a Porsche test driver, who ultimately set the final record time.

At the heart of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is a 700 hp, flat-six biturbo engine, weighing in at 1,470 kg with a full fuel tank. The rear-wheel drive coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, achieving a top speed of 340 km/h.
