Porsche 918 Spyder specifications announced

The long-awaited plug-in Porsche supercar is nearing its production phase as the Stuttgart-based company has recently released photographs showing a prototype version of the car in action.

The car’s hybrid powertrain includes a 562+ horsepower 4.6-liter V8 engine, a 107 hp electric motor on the front axle and a 121 hp electric motor sandwiched between the mid-mounted V8 and the seven-speed PDK gearbox. The 918 Spyder’s combined output is in excess of 759 horsepower.

Despite being a true engineering challenge, the supercar is well within Porsche’s expectations. The Carrera GT’s successor will return a fuel consumption of just 3L/100km (650km for 20L of fuel), and can sprint from a halt to 100km/h in less than 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of more than 320km/h.

Styling-wise, the car remains true to the original concept displayed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show but with minor changes such as new headlamp fixtures, exhaust layout and side view mirrors.

The Porsche 918 Spyder will enter production at the end of September 2013.
