Porsche GT3 CCME Round 1: Schmid claims victory after tough battle with Al Faisal in Race 1

Clemens Schmid has claimed victory during Race 1 of the first round of the 2012 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East on the Bahrain International Circuit after a hard-fought battle with Saudi Falcons driver Abdulaziz Al Faisal.

Al Faisal made a brilliant start from 2nd to take the lead on the first lap of the race, but the Saudi driver lost the position to Schmid halfway into the race, and had to settle for a more-than-satisfying 2nd position.

It is noteworthy that Al Faisal snatched 2nd place on the grid after putting on a fantastic lap in the closing minutes of qualifying despite being hampered earlier on by a Drive Shaft problem.

Clemens Schmid’s Al Nabooda Racing teammate Karim Al-Azhari came in 3rd, with newcomers Zaid Ashkanani and Christina Nielsen – the only female driver in the championsihp – taking fifth and sixth respectively.

Faisal Binladen secured 3rd place in the Silver category of the championship and the 7th overall gaining two positions from his starting place.
