March 8, 2015 – Porsche announced today that is has suspended activities with its brand ambassador Maria Sharapova after the famous tennis player admitted that she had failed a recent drug test.
Sharapova, who became a Porsche brand ambassador in 2013, revealed that she was tested positive for Meldonium, a medicine she had been taking for the past 10 years. According to Sharapova: “this medicine was not on WADA’s banned list and I had been legally taking that medicine for the past 10 years.”
However, the medicine was added to the list of banned substances on January 1, 2016, but Sharapova failed to take notice.
Porsche’s response on the matter came in today via a statement: “We regret the current news about Maria Sharapova. Until further details emerge and we are able to analyse the situation, we have decided to suspend planned activities.”
