Preview: WRC Rally Portugal 2014

First introduced in 1973, the Rally Portugal became famous for its mixed surfaces, with drivers tackling both gravel and tarmac stages. It attracted thousands of visitors every year until spectator safety became a major concern and the event was dropped from the calendar in 2011. However, it returned to the championship in 2007, moving from Porto in northern Portugal to Algarve in the south. What makes the rally so special other than its mixed nature?
