Prodrive planning full-time WRC return in 2013

Prodrive is aiming to contest a full-time World Rally Championship campaign next year with a Mini John Cooper Works WRC car, according to a report published by Motorsport news. The British team is looking to compete in all 13 Rallies with two professional drivers.

After Dani Sordo’s second-place finish in Rally Monte Carlo at the start of the 2012 season, Mini’s parent company BMW demoted Prodrive into a works-team and gave the manufacturer status to Motorsport Italia WRC team instead.

Richard Taylor, Prodrive’s business development director said that team’s primary aim for next year is a full programme, and considered Mini as a good brand for the sport: “The Mini and World Rally Championship work well together, it’s a very strong brand fit. We want to drivers who can exploit that next year – one of them being Dani Sordo. He’s good and we’d like him to be part of the team again but, until we can confirm what we’re doing that’s going to be difficult.”
