April 25, 2015 – Citroen’s Kris Meeke sits in a comfortable lead after the first full day of Rally Argentina that witnessed a host of retirements, with now only eight WRC cars still in the event.
Meeke has been in commanding form in Argentina, winning three of the first day’s five special stages, while losing out to his rivals in SS3 and SS6. The Northern Irishman now lies more than a minute ahead of second-place man team-mate Mads Ostberg.
Volkswagen’s Jari-Matti Latvala, who won the third special stage, is now third overall ahead of Hyundai’s Dani Sordo.
Sebastien Ogier was the highest profile loss during the day, as the reigning champion retired on the second special stage with suspected engine trouble. He was soon joined by Volkswagen team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen, Hyundai’s Haydon Paddon and Ott Tanak.
