Rally Italia Sardegna 2014: Ogier claims victory

Volkswagen’s Sebastien Ogier secured his fourth victory of the 2014 World Rally Championship season in Italy this afternoon. Ogier took the rally lead from his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala at the end of Leg 2 when the latter lost two minutes after hitting a rock and damaging a wheel.

Jari-Matti Latvala dropped to third place overall and despite winning two of Sunday’s four special stages, and inching closer to taking second place, the Finn eventually had to settle for P3 behind Citroen’s Mads Ostberg, who finished more than 1 minute behind Ogier.

Fourth place went to Volkswagen driver Andreas Mikkelsen, followed by Elfyn Evans, Martin Prokop and Henning Solberg.

Ogier now leads the championship with a 30-point advantage to his teammate Latvala.
