Rally Poland 2014: Ogier secures fifth victory of the season

Volkswagen’s Sebastien Ogier secured his fifth victory of the 2014 World Rally Championship season by dominating the seventh round in Poland this weekend. Ogier was under pressure from teammate Andreas Mikkelsen on Thursday and Friday, but the Frenchman managed to pull away on Saturday and Sunday to finish more than a minute clear.

Mikkelsen drove a fantastic rally to finish second overall, followed by Thierry Neuville who made a great comeback from 10th overall, giving Hyundai its second podium of the season. M-Sport’s Mikko Hirvonen ended up fourth overall, just 0.7 seconds ahead of Jari Matti Latvala who suffered suspension damage on Saturday, but was able to resume.

With Mads Ostberg crashing out on Saturday morning, it was Kris Meeke who kept Citroen within the points by finishing seventh overall behind Hyundai’s Juho Hanninen.

Robert Kubica’s home rally went awry when he smashed his right rear suspension on a rock while running sixth. He was able to rejoin and finish a distant 20th overall.
