Radicals to hit the Dubai Autodrome
Rd 2 preview: Dubai Autodrome
This weekend sees the 2012/13 Radical Winter Cup returning to the Dubai Autodrome for round 2 of the national series. Two, 45 minute races will be held this Friday on the demanding National circuit that will test the Radical drivers to their maximum.
The races will feature both the Radical SR3 class and the more powerful 435 brake horsepower SR8 class.
In the SR 8 class, Bassam Kronfli laid down a marker in round 1 at Yas Marina Circuit with a dominant round victory, but this weekend he will be tested by the experienced Jordan Grogor who returns to the series driving along side young Qatari driver Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Thani. Joining the grid from the UK will be the HHC team. The small but very competitive SR8 class promises to offer some very close racing.
The SR3 class sees a number of Middle East drivers competing. Both Mohammed Jawa in the Q8 team and Hassan Dargahi supported by Slipstream racing and with one win a piece at Yas, they can be expected to be up at the front again. Qatar’s Amro Al Hamad will be aiming to get back on the podium again but this time on the top step.
Also expected to be competitive in the SR3 class are the EMAL racing team pairing of Graeme Hannah and Mark Jordan. Although only in their first season of racing Radicals, the team is already showing promise. Aschkan Abdul Malek who hails from Kurdistan and who is also in his first season in the Radicals is expected to run well following the mechanical issues that he had at the previous round at Yas.
“The Radical Series is proving to be very popular among drivers throughout the Middle East. The grids are expected to grow as the season progresses and we are also expecting more European drivers to compete in the UAE from the start of next year,” series co-ordinator, Jake Carlin said
With qualifying on Friday morning, racing will start after lunch on Friday and with a full programme of both bike an car racing, the afternoon promises to offer spectators a great day out.
Admission is free and spectators are welcome to visit the Radical pit garages to get up close and personal with the teams, cars and drivers.
