Following the tremendous success of last year, the premier drifting event in the region, Red Bull Car Park Drift, returns to Bahrain on Friday 25th October 2013 at the Bahrain International Circuit drift area at 7:00pm. The winner will win a spot at the Regional Finals that will be held in Dubai, UAE on November 8th 2013.
A pre-qualifying round will be held on Thursday 24th October 2013 at 7:00pm at the BIC’s drift area to determine the final line- up of cars that will compete on Friday. Returning champion Salman Abdullah will be defending his title against a fierce competition and new judging criteria.
Middle East Hill Climbing champion and Red Bull driver, Abdo Feghali, will be evaluating the drivers’ performances along with a panel of esteemed judges, including Abdulaziz Turki Al-Faisal, Fahad Al Musalam and Loay Abdul Rahman.
The evaluation will mainly assess the drift shows presented by the drivers in their modified cars, through the use of hand breaks and exertion of outstanding skills to take on turns in the most dazzling and accurate ways. In addition, judges will consider the engines’ roars and the external look of the car, the smoke produced by the friction of the tyres and finally the audience’s excitement and cheers for each performance to make their final decision.
Entrance is free and open to the public on Thursday and Friday.
Besides Bahrain, participating countries in the Red Bull Car Park Drift 2013 include Lebanon, UAE, KSA, Oman, Jordan, Egypt and Kuwait. Before gaining international fame and exposure, this sort of competition started in Japan back in the 1970’s based on the idea of competing in a parking lot.
